Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 24, 2024 · Last Updated: October 2026 · Version 2.4
Summary of Our Core Privacy Principles
- ✓Zero File Uploads: 3D files (.stl, .3mf, .gcode, .obj) never leave your device and are processed purely in your browser's RAM.
- ✓No Account Needed: We do not ask for registration, passwords, email lists, or personal identity details.
- ✓Zero Tracking Cookies: No invasive third-party ad networks, tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking profiles.
- ✓We Never Sell Data: We have never sold, monetized, or shared personal data under CCPA/CPRA, and never will.
01.Overview & Scope
Welcome to 3DPrintingCostCalc.com (“we,” “our,” “us,” or the “Service”). We provide modern engineering, economic estimation, and calculation tools for 3D printing enthusiasts, makers, print farms, and additive manufacturing businesses.
This Privacy Policy describes our practices regarding the information collected when you access or use our website. We believe user privacy is an essential human right. Because our service was engineered from the ground up as a stateless client-side web utility, our design fundamentally minimizes the collection and storage of any personal data.
02.Zero-Upload Client-Side Architecture (Technical Guarantee)
When you drop, select, or parse a 3D model or slice file on 3DPrintingCostCalc.com—including but not limited to .stl (ASCII/Binary), .3mf (XML/ZIP archives), .gcode / .bgcode toolpaths, or .obj geometries:
Browser-Native Processing: Files are read directly from your local file system via modern HTML5 JavaScript Web APIs (FileReader, ArrayBuffer, DataView, and Web Workers).
Zero Network Transmission: The raw geometric coordinates, vertex normals, polygon faces, layer heights, and extruder toolpaths are evaluated purely within your local device's volatile memory (RAM).
Instant Ephemeral Purging: At no point are your CAD designs, commercial inventions, proprietary models, or G-code instructions transmitted across the Internet to our web servers, cloud storage, or any third party. Closing or refreshing your browser tab immediately frees and purges this memory.
03.Information We Do NOT Collect
To eliminate privacy risks and safeguard commercial intellectual property, we deliberately refrain from collecting:
- Proprietary 3D Designs & Files: We never capture or store your 3D models or G-code files.
- Personal Identity Information: We do not collect names, physical addresses, telephone numbers, or government IDs.
- User Accounts & Passwords: There is no sign-up or login portal; the service requires zero credential management.
- Payment & Billing Data: All calculation suites are 100% free; we do not process credit cards, bank accounts, or crypto wallets.
- Biometric or Sensitive Personal Data: No biometric, demographic, or special category data is ever collected.
04.Technical Information Collected Automatically (Server Logs)
Like virtually all web applications, when your browser requests static assets (such as HTML pages, stylesheets, JavaScript scripts, or web fonts), standard web server logs receive technical telemetry from your HTTP request headers. This technical data includes:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address (used for geolocation estimation and DDoS mitigation)
- Browser type, engine, and version (User-Agent string)
- Operating system and device platform
- Referring webpage address and exit page timestamps
- HTTP status response codes and asset transfer sizes
Legal Basis & Purpose: This technical data is processed pursuant to our legitimate interests under GDPR Article 6(1)(f) to maintain network stability, prevent malicious automated scraping, defend against denial-of-service attacks, and troubleshoot 404 errors. Server logs are automatically rotated and purged on a regular scheduled basis.
05.Cookies & Local Storage (localStorage) Policy
We do not use advertising cookies, profiling cookies, or third-party marketing trackers.
Our website uses the browser’s built-in localStorage feature strictly for essential client-side personalization:
| Storage Key | Category | Purpose & Description |
|---|---|---|
| theme | Functional / UX | Stores whether you selected ‘dark’ or ‘light’ mode to prevent screen flickering between visits. |
| printer_defaults | Functional / UX | Caches your custom electricity cost rates, machine depreciation, or material cost presets so you do not need to retype them. |
Because localStorage resides exclusively within your local browser, it is never transmitted in HTTP headers to any server. You can inspect or clear these values at any time using your browser’s Developer Tools or Privacy Settings (“Clear Site Data”).
06.Content Delivery Networks & Global Hosting
Our website is statically generated and served globally via high-performance edge Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and cloud hosting infrastructure. These infrastructure partners route static web assets securely and efficiently through globally distributed points of presence (PoPs). All data transferred across our network is enforced through 256-bit Transport Layer Security (TLS / HTTPS).
07.Your Rights Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you possess statutory rights regarding your personal information under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the UK Data Protection Act:
- Right of Access (Art. 15): You have the right to request confirmation as to whether personal data concerning you is processed.
- Right to Rectification (Art. 16): You may request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”, Art. 17): You may request deletion of your personal data where applicable.
- Right to Restriction of Processing (Art. 18): You may request limits on how data is handled.
- Right to Data Portability (Art. 20): You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Object (Art. 21): You may object at any time to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: You have the right to file a complaint with your local Data Protection Supervisory Authority.
Note: Because 3DPrintingCostCalc.com does not collect user accounts, email addresses, names, or identifiable 3D files, we typically hold zero personal data linked to your identity.
08.California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA & CalOPPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have specific statutory rights:
- Notice at Collection: We do not collect categories of consumer personal information other than transient IP addresses in server connection logs.
- Do Not Sell or Share Personal Information: We do not sell, rent, release, disclose, disseminate, or transfer consumer personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We do not discriminate against any user who exercises their statutory privacy rights.
- “Do Not Track” Signals: We respect browser DNT and Global Privacy Control (GPC) headers. Because we do not track users across websites, our site behaves identically whether DNT is enabled or disabled.
09.Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Our website is intended for general audiences, STEM educators, engineers, and makers of all ages. We do not knowingly collect, request, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). If you believe a minor has somehow provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately, and we will take prompt action to remove any such records.
10.External Links & Third-Party Services
Our educational guides, spool tare databases, and printer profiles may contain links to external third-party websites (such as hardware manufacturers, material datasheets, or open-source slicers). We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of every website you visit.
11.Modifications to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in legal standards, web browser security standards, or our computational features. Any updates will be posted directly to this URL with an updated “Last Updated” timestamp at the top of the document. Your continued use of the website following any changes signifies your acceptance of the revised policy.
